Your next Co-op game adventure might be here

Co-op games have proven over the years that they are the best choice for hundreds of thousands of players on Steam. Some of them take a few hours to beat, while others are perfect for locking in hundreds of hours. Recommending a Co-op game is not easy since there are many different ones in all the categories, but we hope you find your next one here.

Can I play these co-op game recommendations with just one other person or do I need a full squad?

Most titles fit well to duos. While a few games are built strictly for four players, the majority scale nicely or work fine with two people as long as you coordinate your roles.

Are these co-op game recommendations cross-platform or PC Only?

It varies wildly. Some developers build seamless cross-play across PC and consoles from day one, while others cannot support it due to platform restrictions or engine limitations. Check the store page details before buying with a mixed group.

Do these co-op game recommendations feature actual campaigns or just endless level grinds?

You can find both. Plenty of titles offer structured, story-driven campaigns with a definitive ending, while others rely on roguelike runs or arcade progression loops that you can replay indefinitely.

How do we avoid lag and connection issues when playing online together?

Stick to games that use dedicated servers rather than peer-to-peer hosting whenever possible, and make sure the person with the most stable internet connection hosts if a peer-to-peer setup is your only option. Some private hosting services also provide game servers for a really cheap monthly fee, that way you will have a 24/7 live server without depending on one of the players to log in.

What is the difference between "Local Co-op" and "Remote Play Together" on Steam?

In terms of gaming, the Local Co-op means that all players use the same computer and need to be in the same physical location. An example of this would be a Co-op game where both players play on the same PC using controllers, or one user on keyboard while the other uses controller. It's just the classic Co-op game.

Remote Play Together it's just the evolution of that, where you can play Local Co-op without the need of being in the same place.

Usually almost every Co-op game that includes Local Co-op, Split screen or Local multiplayer will also allow you to play Remote Play Together. And this is basically a feature that allows the owner of the game (you or your friend) to run the game, activate the function and stream the game to the other player(s). You will then be connected and play as if you were in the same physical place, usually with no noticeable lag or input delays. This way, only 1 person needs to own the game in order to run it on "Remote Play Together", then the other players that want to join just need to accept the invitation to play from their friend.

It is important to note that not all games include this feature, and the Devs and publishers are the ones who can allow it or not.
